Her family was originally from Tarboro, North Carolina.[1]
She attended the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Connecticut; St. Lawrence University, where she was a member of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma; and Parsons The New School for Design. After graduation from Parsons The New School for Design, she began a career working with fashion houses, including TiBi, a New York clothing company founded by designer Amy Smilovic. She worked at C.J. Laing and ultimately co-founded the line T.S. Dixin (which she named after her nephews - Taylor, Spencer, and Dixon)
