Call of Duty fans, set your DVRs. Whether you are a fan of the Dallas Mavericks or the Oklahoma City Thunder -- or neither -- you will want to be tuned into ESPN Monday night. The premiere of the first full-fledged Modern Warfare 3 trailer with gameplay footage will be broadcast during Game 4 of the NBA's Western Conference Finals.
An alert to the broadcast hit Facebook earlier this week -- on the Call of Duty MW3 page -- and earlier today, Infinity Ward's creative strategist Robert Bowling http://twitter.com/#!/fourzerotwo) posted that "The 1st ever Modern Warfare 3 gameplay trailer hits this Monday, May 23rd. I'll blast out a link to the HD version as soon as it airs. #MW3"
The annual Call of Duty buzz-hype machine is beginning. Video game news site Kotaku last week released a detailed and unofficial report on what is expected in the game. Its report that the game takes players to New York, Paris and London seems bolstered by Activision's subsequent release of four teaser trailers based in America (with what looks like a New York skyline), France, England and Germany.
Those trailers collectively had more than 4.8 million hits in their first 48 hours, according to a memo from Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg to company employees, obtained by Giant Bomb. Similar previous trailers for MW2 and Black Ops had 61,000 and 89,000 hits, respectively, the memo says. "Pre-sales for MW3 are off to an amazing start," the memo reads. "Perhaps, most importantly, we migrated the dialogue from one that was between our players and the leakers, to one between our players and us."
Speaking of pre-orders, the Nov. 8 expected release date is also supported by GameStop's Modern Warfare 3 pre-order page listing that date.
