The Softness and delicacy of Eastern attire

Tuesday 14 June 2011

The daintiness and softness that eastern attires exhibit with all their shades and demure cuts compliments the feminine figure in such a delicate way, which is undoubtedly not found in any other culture.

The magnificence of the eastern culture is truly depicted through the dress code of its people, and women in particular. The perfect blend of the colors and cuts in the attire of an eastern woman enhances the elegance and sophistication yet adding style to her personality. Whether it is shalwar kameez, saree, gharara, sharara, churridar or lehanga, the dress of an eastern female, has a luxury and flair of its own.

The art-work and designing on the dresses has as huge variety of style and color as one can think of; from laces to minute thread-work, from sequins to beads and fancy buttons, and from appliqué to heavy gotta on the bridals; eastern woman has a variety to show-off her grace and style with.

The most popular dress among women is shalwar kameez and dupatta that completes the outfit. Shalwar kameez is equally popular among women of all ages, on all occasions; casual, semi-formal, formal and even weddings. It changes its style and cuts over the years, in terms of its length and volume. The art-works, prints and colors have a huge variety to choose from.

Saree has been in style since forever. It is its fashion and class that has made it popular not only in the east but west as well. It is specially admired on formal occasions. The beauty of a saree is that it can be dressed in many different ways. Its minute art-works on the pallu and the petticoat are immensely popular among eastern women.

Churridar is another graceful dress that has been known since ages and hasn’t lost its worth since then. It is worn with a long flared and voluminous frock. These days it is more popular among young girls on traditional occasions.

Gharara, sharara or a lehanga are a must for a bride on her big day. All of them are immensely voluminous, worn with a kurti, yet loaded with heavy art-work, which makes them even heavier. Very few colors were popular in the past; however, different colors, their combinations and contrasts are in fashion now.

Revival of Jamawar and Katan

Make your wedding dresses classy with renewed Jamawar and Katan.

Revival of Jamawar and Katan gives a blend of traditions, customized to give comfort and affection to its valued customers.

Jamawar and Katan have never actually gone out of fashion. Still, there have been efforts to revive this exquisite material for formal wedding dresses in women. Revival of Jamawar and Katan gives a blend of traditions, customized to give comfort and affection to its valued customers. The word “Jama” implies a robe and by “War" we mean yard. This woven material was named Jamawar because of its high preference by the Kings and the elites. It is worn in the form of a shawl to be wrapped around thus the trade name “Jamawar”.

This impressible wool with a mixture of cotton is an elegant material and therefore Jamawar is demanded highly these days for Pishwas bodies, chudri dar pajamas and for the colored panels in A-line shirts.

The revival of Jamawar has provided us with an extensive variety of colors and complex designs.

Other types of Jamawar shawls include: Rega-butta-which have small floral patterns; Kirkh-Buties-these designs have large floral outline and Jaldars-they have net like design. The original Jamawar shawls are however expensive to buy.

Today, many embellishments are made in Jamawar with sequins, dabka work, goata, beeds and swaroski crystals. Tapestry is also used to enhance and decorate the woven pattern. Also, there are approximately fifty colors found in these Jamawar shawls including turquoise, purple, blue, green, red and yellow to name a few. This art was revived first by India through the introduction of Jamawar saris by establishing a shawl weaving centre. These saris vary from rich to delicate pastels.

Katan is popular or its ability to refine the texture and its extraordinary color scheme and designs have no parallel match anywhere else. Revival of smart Katan has enabled it to be available in markets with multi-colored embroidery, mooti, resham work, beads, sequins, cut dana and tie n dye dupattas with matching gypsy kurtis. This cloth is available at competitive prices and is also provided at prompt delivery. The classy fabric is thus affordable by everyone.  Katan is made with twisting a number of different silk threads. Majorly it’s used for wrapping light fabric.

If anyone plans to experiment with their traditional clothes especially saris or other kinds of wedding dresses, they can revive their fashion statement with modern Jamawar and Katan silk. For a sari, one can adjust the pallu by draping the sari in any way they like in order to be the trend setter. Hence, remember that by using Jamawar and Katan in your wedding dresses, you can make the entire outfit look extremely chic and trendy.

This might be the reason that the collection of Fashion designers Imran & Rabia was represented a blend of fantasy and creativity.

The whole composition was a set of contrasts created by adroit use of matt and finished fabrics such as satin, chiffon, and rich silk. The corollary was a combination of dull and shiny, rough, and smooth, and closed and transparent. Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week - Day 4: Gayatri by Gayatri Khanna Spring Summer 2011

Party girls and socialites will have a lot to choose from Gayatri Khanna's sparkly 'clubbing clothes', cocktail numbers and jaded evening wear. She did have a few interesting pieces though, like the feather print jumpsuit (wish I had a full length picture), the multi coloured mini skirt was adorable and the pale grey/blue drape gown was nice.

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 - Manish Malhotra Bridal

I am surprised by Manish Malhotra's collection at HDIL Couture Week, surprised because it's not that bad! I mean compared to what he showed at Pearls Delhi Couture Week or Lakme Winter Festive. The Pearls DCW collection was quite tacky and the 'Aircel colours' he used for Lakme Winter Festive were jarring, in his typical style Manish really brought it on, by creating the shaadi baraati ambiance with his HDIL collection. Or maybe it was the jewellery from Anmol that made all the difference, the ornaments were exquisite!

Although Manish's showstopper was Aishwariya Rai, it was sad the he put her in the worst outfit in the entire collection, that white corset top with the ghagra skirt looks sorry. I don't know what's with the world's most beautiful women and her luck with bad designer clothes? Stunning Ash takes your breadth away when she's decked in Elie Saab or Roberto Cavalli couture gowns, she knocks off all the Hollywood goris from best dressed lists. It's sad that she gets a raw deal sometimes from our very own desi designers. It wouldn't hurt to study up a bit on fashion Ash, it's never too late. By now you should've been adept at discriminating between classy and tacky. I mean kudos to you for switching over from Neeta Lulla (if in case you really did), but then again...there are plenty of stylists here to help you make better choices. Lesson 1, corset tops and skirts are soo 2003, ditch em, and those fluffy, long sleeve anarkalis that make you look dowdy.

Wills India fashion Week 2011 begins in style

”In the Indian, I’ve gone very Hyderabadi. There’s the khara dupatta and jubba, with fabrics ranging from hazy over-dyed Pochampalli to malkha (a derivative of khadi, but with the yarn machine-spun),” Kabra said.

Earlier, Sunil Sethi, president of the Fashion Design Council of India, the organisers of the fashion event, said this year’s edition of WIFW was ‘bigger and grander’ than the earlier editions with the biggest ever venue.

”The venue for the WIFW SS 2011 is the biggest ever to accommodate the increased number of fashion designers scheduled to showcase their designs and also the increased number of buyers coming to the event,” Sethi said.

Earlier in that single hall, there used to be a set up of exhibition area, two main show areas (MSA), lounges, a media centre, dining area and backstage as well.

But now, the event is being held in a huge space at hall no 18 of the Pragati Maidan.

Top names like Abraham and Thakore, Ashish Soni, Ashima-Leena, J J Valaya, Kotwara by Meera and Muzaffar Ali, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ranna Gill, Ritu Beri, Rohit Bal, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, Tarun Tahiliani and Wendell Rodricks will be showcasing their collections during the WIFW SS 2011.

At the same time, the organisers sad this season numerous young designers will be displaying their creative brilliance for the first time in the capital.

In fact, among the 58 labels showcasing on the ramp over the course of five days, there are many who will be taking to the ramp here for the first time.

This year the grand finale of the WIFW will be done by renowned designer Tarun Tahiliani.

Though like every year, the WIFW SS 2011 will have its share of glamour with celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechin and Sonakshi Sinha expected to walk the ramp, the organiser said the event will be low on glamour and high on fashion.

There will be some activities like a fashion quiz and fashion awards during the event.

Wills India fashion Week 2011 begins in style

While a total of 115 designers will showcase their collections at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2011, to be held at Pragati Maidan till October 23, the venue for the eevnt is the biggest ever for WIFW till date.

The five-day fashion extravaganza kicked off with a show by designer Anand Kabra which transported the audience to the Hyderabadi era.

The old city surrounding Charminar became the literal translation for the textures and embellishments in Kabra’s spring summer collection with brush strokes and pochampalli weaves lifting their interpretations from the peeling walls and fading tiles of the crumbling havelis in and around the ‘phool mandi’.

The facade of Charminar and its trellises revisited an earlier era in sepia beaded embroidery and burnt zardozi.

Decadence and indulgence, fantasy and reality, sophistication and seduction, dilapidation and luxury engaged in a play-off between enriched malkhas and matt brush – stroked lurex, embellished raw kora and tie-dyed taffeta, grunged pochampalli cottons and sheer bright georgettes.

While languid wide leg pants and shararas, kurti cholis and dresses, sherwanis and jackets, wrap ‘lungi’ skirts and lehengas defined an indulgent and sophisticated silhouette, references to the bird cage grill and seduction emerged through the ‘haath ki jali’ seam joints on the garments, and subtle ‘corsetry’, ‘string’ play and transparency.

The designer’s collection, called ‘Mandi’, has a strong international look that goes into an aesthetic Indian look as well, with a lot of dresses, trousers, tunics, wraps and add-on blazers thrown in.

SABRE (rocket engine)

SABRE (Synergistic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine) [1] is a concept by Reaction Engines Limited for a hypersonic precooled hybrid air breathing rocket engine [4] for propelling the proposed Skylon launch vehicle into low Earth orbit (LEO). SABRE is the logical continuation of Alan Bond's series of liquid air cycle engine (LACE) and LACE-like designs that started in the early/mid-1980s for the HOTOL project.

The design comprises a single combined cycle rocket engine with two modes of operation.[2] The air breathing mode combines a turbo-compressor with a lightweight air precooler positioned just behind the inlet cone. At high speeds this precooler cools the hot, ram compressed air leading to an unusually high pressure ratio within the engine. The compressed air is subsequently fed into the rocket combustion chamber where it is ignited with stored liquid hydrogen. The high pressure ratio allows the engine to continue to provide high thrust at very high speeds and altitudes. The low temperature of the air permits light alloy construction to be employed which gives a very lightweight engine — essential for reaching orbit. In addition, unlike the LACE concept that preceded it, SABRE’s precooler does not liquefy the air letting it run more efficiently.[3]

After shutting the inlet cone off at Mach 5.14, 28.5 km altitude,[2] the system continues as a closed cycle high performance rocket engine combusting liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen from on-board fuel tanks allowing Skylon to reach orbital velocity after leaving the atmosphere on a steep climb.

An engine derived from the SABRE concept called Scimitar has been designed for the company’s A2 hypersonic passenger jet proposal for the EU-funded LAPCAT study.[5]

Alan Bond says that the technology readiness level of the SABRE engine is, as of May 2009, 2-3.[6] A project called the Technology Demonstration Programme, funded through private finance as well as an ESA grant, began in February 2009 with the aim of validating key aspects of the engine by the end of 2011. The company anticipates this will bring the system to a technology readiness level of 4-5.[7][8]
