A smooth transfer of authority

Tuesday, 12 April 2011

Two matches, two captains and two centuries. Continuity is one of leadership's more useful allies, and Michael Clarke took up where his predecessor left off by crafting a century of high quality to mirror Ricky Ponting's hundred against India in his final match as Australian captain.
That day in Ahmedabad, Ponting had driven himself to a first century in more than a year after Clarke threw his wicket away with an unsightly heave. In Mirpur, it was Clarke who held the innings together once Ponting had unsteadied it by contriving with Shane Watson to end an innings of 34 that was brimming with promise. For both men the change of office appeared to have done plenty of good. Ponting was relaxed, focused and timing the ball better than he had in months, Clarke sensitive to the rhythms of the innings yet powerful enough to strike a last-over six to crest three figures. In this way Ponting's visage at the crease was as significant as that of Clarke, though there was no question which man's picture would adorn the sports pages in Australia on Sunday.
Thus far, Clarke and Ponting, the two central characters in a captaincy episode of the sort seldom seen in Australian cricket, have played their roles more or less as billed. Clarke has shown himself to be an energetic and empathic leader, doing his best to speak to each player and spending plenty of time with his vice-captain Watson discussing tactics, strategy and the general well-being of the team. On the eve of the first match Clarke and Watson were often in conversation, and the captain could still be seen in his tracksuit, pacing around the team's Dhaka hotel, long after the rest of the players had retired to civilian clothes, or to bed.

Shane Watson has been picked as Australia's sole representative in the International Cricket Council's team of the World Cup, while tournament runners-up Sri Lanka contributed four players.
Champions India saw just three players make it into the XI after defeating fellow tournament co-hosts Sri Lanka by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday morning, with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni making a man-of-the-match winning 91 not out.
But the ICC's five-man panel of experts, looking at the World Cup as a whole, opted for Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara as skipper.
The other Sri Lankans in the team were dashing opener Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene and veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who made his final international appearance.
India's trio were Sachin Tendulkar, a World Cup winner at the sixth attempt, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh - the man of the tournament - and left-arm quick Zaheer Khan.
Khan was the tournament's joint most-successful bowler with 21 wickets alongside Pakistan leg-spinner and captain Shahid Afridi.
The global governing body's all-star XI was completed by the South Africa duo of batsman/keeper AB de Villiers and fast bowler Dale Steyn, while New Zealand's Tim Southee was selected as 12th man.
ICC's team of the World Cup (in batting order):

Delhi aim revival against Rajasthan

JAIPUR: If Rajasthan Royals are looking for any inspiration, they just need to look towards east. One of their key players for the IPL 4 campaign was going ballistic in Dhaka on Monday. Shane Watson will join the Royals right after their match against Delhi Daredevils at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here. That would also be soon after his 96-ball 185 against Bangladesh in Monday's ODI.

Not that the Royals need any inspiration, after their convincing win over Deccan Chargers in their IPL opener on Saturday. Yet, Watson's innings certainly was a reason to rejoice. "He is an awesome player, one of the best in the world now," another key Royals player Johan Botha said, making it clear that the team is awaiting his arrival.Even without Watson, the Royals look formidable enough to beat the Virender Sehwag-led Daredevils. At least on paper, the hosts look stronger. However, in T20, predictions are hazardous. A few good blows can turn any game on its head. And the Delhi side has players capable of doing just that. Both Sehwag and David Warner can do a Watson against any attack in the world.

Interactive t-shirts narrate a 'book of the world'

Thursday, 7 April 2011

Forced into a corner by the challenges posed online, we're seeing some interesting innovations coming out of the publishing industry. Just last month there was The Drum, for example — the literary magazine that's published exclusively in audio form. Now N-spired Story is a Spanish effort that aims to publish a “book of the world” on interactive, limited-edition t-shirts. Anyone with a story to tell can register on the N-spired Story site and post it for free, complete with any videos, photos, links and text that might help bring it to life. Each month, based on user voting results, N-spired Story selects one story as the basis for a chapter in its "book of the world". N-spired then works with an artist to interpret the story for t-shirt form; once that's done, the limited-edition shirt is created and sold for EUR 18.95 for just 10 days. (Discounted multi-shirt subscriptions are also available.) Not only are N-spired t-shirts suitable for wearing, they can also tell their stories. With a dedicated app available for both iPhone and Android, users can point their phone at the t-shirt's design, which will be recognized and link to online content.
Meanwhile, N-spired aims to use its t-shirt publications to help the world. A percentage of the sales from each shirt, in fact, is used to “perform a social act” based on the story in question. For example, following the company's first chapter — which honored the 61-year-old farmer who recently won Australia's Sydney–Melbourne — N-spired set up the Ultra Young Marathon of 875 meters, “encouraging the elderly that it is never too late to accomplish something they never thought they could.” Moreover, after nine such chapters are published in t-shirt form, N-spired plans to create the N-spired Book — a physical, traditional book with information about the authors, the original stories, the artists, the designs, the social acts, and behind-the-scenes insights into the creation process. A video on Vimeo explains N-spired's concept in more detail.

How to Find Discount Hubcaps

Most of us that own vehicles often view hubcaps and wheel covers as more of an accessory to our vehicle than any piece of functional equipment. While they may pose little practical use to the average car owner these hubcaps and wheel covers we use on our vehicles are far more functional than we give credit for.
Compared to the technology of today, the original mechanics used for early automobiles was relatively simple and straight forward. Even with simplicity though there were still moving parts that needed protection. The greased axel hubs needed to be covered to avoid debris and dirt from ruining those moving parts. Hubcaps were a way to prevent that damage when cars tooled around on the roads at the time (which were often just dirt).
The modern wheel covers that many of us use today as well as the hubcaps serve the dual purpose of protecting the lugs and the wheel hub as well as giving your car a certain extra sense of style - you're basically making a fashion statement with your wheels. The benefit is that you can easily customize the look of your vehicle, swapping out the wheel covers or hubcaps while keeping those internal moving parts protected.
Saving Money on Hubcaps
Everyone has a budget when it comes to their vehicle. Some are wholly willing to spend thousands of dollars tricking out their ride but most of us like to keep that budget small with little splurges from time to time. If you're more conservative with your vehicle budget then you may be interested in the most common hubcaps and wheel covers. They tend to be made from plastics and cheaper materials that often sell in sets for around $20 (some for more). The only downside to these is that they damage easily and can wear out faster.
Springing for Quality Accessories
If you have the budget for a nicer look to your vehicle then you can either spring for mag-alloy wheels (that typically only require a nice hubcap) or you can go for the custom wheel covers that are made from stronger materials and durable metals. These custom wheel covers tend to run a bit higher on price but they last much longer and don't succumb as easily to damage from road debris and daily driving.
Quality materials mean your wheel covers and hubcaps are built to last. Just remember that no matter what you pay they tend to attach themselves to your wheels in the same manner so it's just as easy to lose an expensive wheel cover as it is to lose a budget one.
No matter you budget there are styles and designs to fit virtually every kind of vehicle. For each make and model you'll find a variety of designs that will either clip inside your wheel rim or use a simple lug nut system to fix itself on top of the existing lugs of your car. No style is better than the other, and no style grips better than the other - it's mainly a matter of preference and what will fit your vehicle.
If you have any difficulty trying to settle on a particular style you can always work with your dealer, the manufacturer or a parts supplier to find the ideal hubcaps or wheel covers that will fit your vehicle make and model. Not all will look good - but with a little searching and comparison shopping you can find the cover or cap that's perfect for your car, truck or SUV.

An Art Gallery Analysis

One of my projects in my university art class was to visit an art gallery and organize an analysis of the gallery as well as to select one artist's work which is on display. I was to discuss the merits of that selected work of art for all to see. As you drive towards the ocean, east of Lewis Delaware, you encounter a quaint little art gallery on your left with a full size sign above the gallery reading, "Peninsula Gallery". After parking at 520 Savannah Road and entering the shop, you first encounter the friendly owners and operators, Carol and Tony Boyd-Heron. Both of these individuals are very knowledge in the field of art and in particular those clients with whom they represent.
The gallery is composed of four major sections, the main gallery with its general selection of art work, a separate featured artist exhibit area and two business sections for building frames and art restoration. On entering the gallery I was at first disappointed for I had expected the business to be larger than what it actually was. I felt it was unusually small however in all fairness; there were some unique and interesting paintings on the walls from some of Delaware's outstanding local artists. I saw some harbor scenes in acrylic painted by Tara Funk Grime. Her works appealed to my whimsical nature however, my goal was to review the work of Frank Schoonover who was scheduled for an exhibit at the gallery between February 2nd and the 28th. Unfortunately, the paintings for Mr. Schoonover had not arrived at the gallery as of the time of my arrival.
Being somewhat of an artist myself, I inquired about the lack of any sort of modern styles of art being displayed in the gallery. In response, Mr. Boyd-Heron informed me that the studio's customers who frequent the gallery were more conventional in their taste; therefore most contemporary art work was usually not available. Being a small gallery there were no specific tools in place to guide one to any significant displays. In lieu of a central focal point, I would have to state that if any art were of exceptional value above the others, it would likely be those which occupy the front display areas. These are the first works viewed as you enter the gallery.
I continued to take a short walk through the main section of the gallery and alternately chanced upon the works of Howard Eberle. I previously had never viewed any of this gentleman's art. Although Mr. Eberle's watercolor compositions were generally simple seascape scenes, he produced some very dramatic paintings with solid perspective and firm form. The longer I gazed at his art work the more appreciative I was to his style. His use of simple humble objects produced a spontaneous freshness in his composition and hinged closely to an abstract style. Even Mr. Eberle refers to his particular painting style as "abstract realism". Viewing his work for any length of time provides a new found peacefulness for one's soul.
Several of his art works feature such common objects as weather vanes, an old abandoned rocking chair, a badly weathered rowboat or other objects often overlooked by the non-artist eye. In his art we can view empty deck chairs as if they are inviting us to sit and observe the ocean from which it faces all within a type of surreal environment.
Much of his projects feature strong shadow textures and a certain amount of graphical influence perhaps as a result of his heavily inspired architectural background. I was very impressed by his use of lights and shadows to project a sense of time into the paintings.
Although Mr. Eberlie has several excellent works of art that I could select to analyze and discuss I have managed to break down my selection to one only. I will talk about his watercolor painting referred to as "Sunset Bay".
This small painting is less than two feet by three feet, but packs an abundance of artistic strengths in its small package. It sits on the wall with other works from Eberlie's collection of art. The only identifying data for the art work is a small card attached to the wall indicating the artist's name. I was forced to do additional research in order to identify the piece of art accurately and place a specific name upon it.
As with keeping with the artist's practice of simplicity we see white sand based against a receding sun. The horizon is clearly shown, indicating by both color and light that evening has approached. The darkness of the chair in the foreground reveals not only a measure of shadow but a sharp contrast against the lighter shades of the painting. The design aspects of the piece fit together perfectly and provide the observer with a feeling of closure and balance.
When I view this work of art I am first impressed at how my eyes are drawn into the declining sun on the horizon. The straight lines associated with the solid chair compliment the roundness we see in the fading sun. Both horizontal and vertical lines blend together in harmony while the artist has successfully transferred a feeling of calm with his weak and light shadowy effect. These cold black shadows of the chair contrast perfectly with the warm skylight shades. We can not view this painting without realizing how Eberlie has maintained an abundance of space on his canvas yet has overlapped that space with firm, solid objects with accurate proportions.
As we look at "Sunset Bay" we realize how often we have been in this particular scene without appreciating the full impact of what we were seeing. I have frequently taken my own folding lawn chair and visited the coastal towns along the Delaware shore and sat calmly at the edge of the ocean listening to the waves and hearing the gulls above while watching the distant sun go down slowly beyond the horizon. To do so, reveals a calm life at the shore with no human intervention other than me and Mother Nature. I truly have to thank Mr. Eerlie for bring back so many fine memories of my past years.
The website for "Peninsula Gallery" is clearly laid out and can be easily navigated without difficulty. Within its pages you will find samples of the artwork which is on display at the gallery and a list of upcoming exhibitions. Assuming that the art work had arrived to the gallery as planned the web site would have proven useful for this trip. It is unfortunate that the internet site could not provide a better view of the art pieces and further explanation of the art contained within the gallery, as that would have been very helpful prior to my visit. However, the owners have done as well as can be expected and no problems were experienced. Even though the expected exhibit was not present the experience was still enjoyable and worthwhile. I will likely revisit the site in the future in order to see what is scheduled and visit the gallery accordingly.

The Amazing Durham Cathedral

If there were to exist one method by which a human being could be humbled it would be to position them in the center of a huge medieval cathedral such as Durham Cathedral. This Romanesque style cathedral was constructed between the years 1093 and 1133. As Sir Walter Scott so aptly remarked, "Half church of God, half castle "in reference to its immense size and purpose. To visualize what Scott had in mind consider for a moment a structure with an amazing length of 469 feet and a height of 73 feet with its towers extended upward to 218 feet. It is truly a magnificent creation. Located in the city of Durham, England this exquisite building is the seat for the Anglican Bishop of Durham.
Along with its nearby complimentary Durham Castle which was the home for the Bishop of Durham, the pair is an indication of exactly how much power the position of bishop actually wedged during those medieval times. Even to this day there is Church of England services performed daily at the cathedral. Throughout its life span this masterpiece of Romanesque architecture has served as everything imaginable including a prison. Oliver Cromwell had imprisoned 3,000 Scottish POW's there in 1650. Of that amount at least 1,700 lost their lives as a result of the inhuman conditions they endured at the Cathedral resulting in many graves both known and unknown gracing the grounds of this place of worship.
Being a great fan of pipe organs I was particularly impressed since the cathedral houses a fully functional unit from the mid 1700s. This organ has made its mark upon history and is included in the National Pipe Organ Register. If you would like to hear this musical instrument research and listen to the Congregation at the Durham cathedral.
It would be difficult not to notice the many fabulous features of this massive sized building. The building with its ribbed vault roof's curved lines and its pointed transverse arches provide a prominent display although they are not necessarily unique for you can discover similar styles of cathedrals amongst various European nations. Its slender piers alternated among massive drum style columns display a feeling of strength and endurance. With its tall ceilings you experience a feeling of distance and vast emptiness. The texture itself appears hard and rough which adds to the impression of superiority over man. Similar features have been displayed by the Gothic architecture found in the north of France.
The architectural aspect of this creation clearly conveys a feeling that some force other than mankind dwells within its cold, hard walls. I would imagine that when one walks within its structure their emotions reach a high level of piety. The framework seems to adequately portray its purpose quite well.
If I were to be forced to provide a judgment upon this art form I would say it has not only achieved its aim but has surpassed any expectations laid before it. Both the elements of its composition and its general characteristics impress me with a sense of balance between the known and the unknow

An Adventure With Andrea Orcagna

For this article entry I have decided to select Renaissance art for my topic of choice. These objects of art originated from the Renaissance period of history. This period of art is commonly recognized for its complex and ornate architectural patterns. Those paintings which have emerged from this time span were frequently commissioned by the church and as a result, customarily border upon religious topics. The influence of the church upon art at this period of time was exceptionally powerful and acceptance of one's art by the church establishment was instrumental in securing success as an artist.
Although they may be rare and usually and not to predominant one can find some oils which have survived the many wars and crisis of the European nations over the centuries. It has been said that the Renaissance art acted as a transition point between the medieval and the modern art age and in some respects one can view this gradual movement through the techniques used and the novel artistic sensibilities found in the works. Perhaps these works of art may have been the inspiration for our modern styles.
Although Raphael would likely be my most admired artist within that time frame, I have selected a lesser known craftsman as a challenge. For this exercise I would like to discuss the Florentine painter Andrea Orcagna. Orcagna's most notable contribution to the art field was his "Altarpiece of the Redeemer". Completed in 1359, it has been credited with being his "most perfected" example of art.
However, I have chosen to analyze Orcagna's fresco entitled "The Triumph of Death". In these short pages I could never begin to report upon the complete fresco so I will use those portions which are frequently displayed in the usual college art textbook. In this view of his work we see several sick looking elders attempting to convince death to take them. Their sickness has caused them to despair and they wish only to end their suffering. I find this artwork to possess such elegant detail that it becomes difficult to take ones eyes off of the image.
The fresco "The Triumph of Death" centers upon the horrors associated with the great bubonic plague which killed a large number of people during the 1300s. An interesting thought concerning these types of art is that throughout Europe at the time you can encounter other artists who also explored the deaths associated with the plaque. Often on projects of this magnitude several artists would unit to complete a work of art together.
The usual procedure was that the master selected to perform the art work would complete the basic design labors, however he would than assign the actual painting tasks to apprentices for the final completion. It has been aptly stated that this was the case in Orcagna's "Triumph of Death". In either case, whether he completed the final product or case worked it out it is definitely a work of art and stands amongst the finest works created by man.
When one first views the fresco they immediately see the artistic merits associated with this work. To start out we view a well composed painting with a feeling of looking through a window at the subjects involved. The artist has taken great pains to portray the individuals in a realist aspect. Their faces show the burdens from all the death they have been viewing and that which is still to come. The lines are straight forward and provide no unexpected interruptions what so ever. Orcagna has taken the liberty to maintain his painting in a light and dark setting so as to enhance his efforts to create a deadly background. Often man associates dark colors with their final earthly act of dying. We can clearly see the shadows within the facial elements establishing vast numbers of stressful wrinkles as if they must do tasks which they would rather not do. His use of stout shapes for the frail bodies permits him to exaggerate in an effort to make his point consistent with his color selections. He employs a series of low-key, mixed shades saturated in skin tones. He has left little empty space in his images which directs our eyes to immediately be drawn towards the faces of the men displayed; the texture appears to be wrinkled as he so desired it to be.
The painting can best be described as Renaissance at its best. He has perhaps instilled within each of us the fear and emotional response that we too can and will at some future time depart this earth. The artist has done a splendid job of painting the people as well as the scenes involved in the complete fresco and the various elements of the painting's surroundings such as the heavy rings being formed around the eyes or in another scene not shown where the devil drags an innocent person to hell. I feel he has successfully achieved his artistic goals.

The Artist and His Mother

Of all art related articles and submissions so far, I have found this one to be the most trying. I feel the art textbook simply do not do justice to our modern artists, as there are many that would have been better represented in the final chapters of our art books. For this topic I have selected a work by Arshile Gorky entitled "The Artist and his Mother".
The artist's life is a trail of tragedy and death present a major topic in many of his art pieces and a tragic life it was. From the burning of his art studio, his bout with cancer, a broken neck, paralysis of his painting arm and finally the departure of his wife and children, the events simply proved too much for him. In 1948 at the young age of 44 Gorky committed suicide by hanging himself in his Connecticut home.
This artist from Connecticut provided an active inspirational influence upon Abstract Expressionism. In most of his work he has endeavored to display the suffering he had experienced by way of the Armenian genocide. This was particularly true of the painting which we are now discussing. We can see past artist influences here at work as we find various traits reminiscent of Cézanne and Picasso.
In the "Artist and His Mother" the painter attempts to provide a memorable image of his departed mother. This painting was actually based upon not only Gorky's memories but an old photograph taken years before. Here we see him standing next to his mother. There are two versions of this painting in existence, one being located in Washington DC. We witness a young man standing next to an older lady in front of an empty window. There are no furnishings to be seen in the room. We have to ask ourselves what secrets this painting holds from the painter.
In analyzing this work of art we first notice that it demonstrates Gorky's tremendous loss which he experienced when his mother died. The lines of the painting are fluid and dull as if they are telling us that they could disappear at any moment in time. The artist's brush has crossed the barrier of life and death as he displays the cold, analogous, low-key colors to record his subdued feelings. His mothers face appears unnatural and presents a stone like appearance as if she was a statue or represented a headstone. The loose, unstable shape of the ladies ghost white, flowing dress furthers his proof that his mother is really not physically at his side. The body of his mother as painted upon the canvas presents a vision of flatness in composition indicating someone who may have died and is no longer part of the earthly plane while the rough, grainy texture gives an uncanny feel that all is not well.
Has he succeeded in conveying his tortured feelings from his homeland and his departed mother? He certainly has. We see Gorky standing next to his mom in his formal clothing as if attending a funeral and carefully extending a pink flower towards his mother. Perhaps this is a flower being presented to her at her coffin either way with her being dead there is no response seen from her face or body. We can notice the sadness being displayed upon his face as he glances towards his mother. I perceive this sadness as related to his inability to give her the flower he currently holds.
Although the original photograph was taken with a van, the background of the painting is just about indiscernible. He has successfully taken an old black and white photo and transferred it with cubistic planes, color, and a measure of animation but unfortunately he has fails to revive his dead mother back into his memories. He has created a brown square window directly behind his mother. This window however is so opaque that one can not make out any features within the glass. This is further indication that his mother's landscape is long gone and never to return again.

Pageant Tips for National American Miss, American Coed and International Junior Miss Pageants

When it comes to natural pageants for girls and teens, National American Miss (NAM), American Coed (Coed), and International Junior Miss (IJM) are popular choices for many families. My daughters and clients always rave about the quality of these pageant systems when they participate in them. Because these three pageant systems have similar categories of competition, when you prepare for one it's easy to compete in the other two.
The 3 main areas of competition for state pageants are formal wear, personal introduction, and interview. Fun fashion/Modeling is added as a fourth category of competition at the national IJM pageant.
Special Tips for Formal Wear:
  • Gowns must be full length and touch the floor for all three pageants. Better a little too long than too short; but the contestant must be able to walk in the gown without stepping on it. The shoes should not be visible when they are standing still.
  • Make sure there are straps on gowns for the girls ages 4-12. The 13-15 age groups are a bit tricky. You will see both strapped and strapless gowns on girls in these age groups. Here is a question to ask yourself when looking for a Jr. Teen gown. When she is wearing the dress, does she look older than 15? It's better to be conservative. If she could pass for an 18-year-old in the dress, it's too mature. Add straps. In the teen divisions, strapless gowns are perfectly acceptable.
  • Make sure the skirt isn't too full or puffy. The judges want to see your daughter. If the dress is too wide or too ruffley-puffley, it will shorten the contestant's height on stage and take attention away from the girl. There is a fine line between making a statement with your gown and it being too much. You will start seeing the straighter gown skirts and mermaid styles on the Teens in COED; and on Jr. Teens and Teens in NAM and IJM. Slit skirts are not common on Teens in these three pageant systems; however, occasionally you will see one. It all depends on the how tasteful the dress style is. Again, I feel it is better to be conservative and opt for no slit. A high slit is never appropriate in these three pageants.
  • Single colored gowns with tasteful embellishments tend to score best in these systems. If you think the colors of sherbet ice cream flavors, you'll get a pretty good idea of the color palette you'll see on stage. And of course, you will always see white.

New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music

The Smithsonian's New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music traveling exhibit chronicles the development of America's music. America's story is revealed through our music, which has come from a variety of cultural and ethnic heritages. Rhythms, harmonies, and melodies have blended to form new sounds. It has taken expression in many different types of music including folk, gospel, blues, country western, zydeco, and bluegrass. The variety of instruments used includes guitar, fiddle, banjo, dulcimer, accordion, harmonica, and drums.
The New Harmonies exhibit is part of the Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street series. These are one of a kind cultural projects that serve the residents of America's small towns and rural areas. The events bring opportunities to small museums that would otherwise lack the funding and resources to attract these types of exhibits. They also allow the Smithsonian to share their collections with people who might not otherwise have access to them. Museum on Main Street partners with state humanities councils to bring the exhibits to the local venues. Gaffney is the first of six South Carolina towns that have been chosen to host New Harmonies. Other towns that will host the traveling exhibit are Conway, Allendale, Walhalla, Laurens, and Beaufort.
New Harmonies will open in Gaffney on April 9 and will run through May 29. The Gaffney Visitor Center & Art Gallery, located at 210 Frederick Street will host the exhibit. Photographs, recordings, lyrics, and artist profiles are included in the exhibit. There will be many companion events over the seven weeks such as concerts, workshops, and lectures. Events are free, although some will require advance registration. There will be a Lunch and Learn series that will feature different musical artists who will showcase their particular genre of music. There will be workshops where attendees can create musical instruments such as a Native American flute or a one string banjo. Some of the workshops will be sponsored by the local Cherokee County Alliance of Visual Arts (CAVA). The concerts will feature vocal as well as instrumental music. Some concerts will be held in the auditorium at Limestone College and some will be outdoors at the Michael Gaffney Log Cabin. A full schedule of the Gaffney events is available at the Visitor Center

Gift Ideas for Cancer Patients

Dealing with someone who is suffering from a disease like cancer can often seem difficult because most cancer patients tend to be extremely sensitive. While they would want to know that they are cared for, they in no way want to be sympathized with about their condition. It is important that you understand this and that you comfort them in the right way. One way of doing this would be to give them a thoughtful gift. While there are many materialistic, practical gifts that you can choose from, the fact of the matter is that most of these gifts would hardly be appreciated by them. When you pick out gifts for cancer patients, pick out something that is inspirational, thoughtful, and something that genuinely has an uplifting effect on their spirits.

Good Gifts for Cancer Patients

Build Even Better Fashion Displays

Store displays can make all the difference if you are a fashion retailer - particularly when it comes to catching the eye of your customers. As a retailer, you will know the impact that clothing displays can have on buyer behaviour - when customers are presented with an attractive arrangement of products, they are more likely to make a purchase or return to your store at a later date. There are a number of things that make a shop display great - ranging from the layout of the store itself to small details such as the usage and range of mannequins and clothes hangers.

A good place to start is to create an ideal shop floor, where your goods can be showcased to their best possible greatest potential. First, you will need to determine what kind of retail space you want to create. Do you want shelves stacked high with neatly folded clothing, or would you prefer your customers to browse through racks of garments hanging on hangers? Will you be selling one type of garment, or several different clothing options - including accessories or shoes? These are all important questions to consider, as the answers will help you create the perfect showcase for your wares.

Your shop floor vision can offer you plenty of direction when it comes to choosing the major items you need for your display. A slat wall is perfect if you are looking for a merchandise display that can easily be changed or rearranged, while clothing rails on wheels could be the ideal solution if you are in a multi-use space.

Depending on how frequently you plan to change your entire layout, you may wish to opt for fixed shelves or a more mobile option that can be put together or taken apart quickly. Of course, it is important to keep all elements of your display design matching. You will want to ensure that everything from your shelves and racks to your hangers are consistent in terms of colours and materials - a uniform look projects an image of expertise and professionalism to your potential customers.

Your Husband Cheated On You And Now You Want To Know Why

Sunday, 3 April 2011

When you discover that your husband has had an affair, you feel like your world has fallen apart. You battle feelings of betrayal, despair and anger. Right now you're an emotional wreck but you can't get one question out of your head: why did he cheat on you? Why would he risk destroying your marriage by doing something so selfish and stupid?
You certainly deserve answers to your questions but if you just found out about the affair, you need to take care of yourself first. If you have any desire to save your marriage, give yourself a chance to get your emotions under control and recover from the shock you have just experienced. You don't want to destroy any hope of repairing your relationship by trying to discuss the problem before you have control of your anger. I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve a piece of your mind but to make meaningful progress on saving your marriage you need to be able to control your emotions when you attempt to reconcile.
When you feel calm enough to start discussing solutions to rebuild your marriage, you will obviously want some explanation from him for why he cheated on you. What is really frustrating is that many cheaters can't point to a specific reason why they cheated. Some when faced with blatant temptation just don't seem to think about how serious the consequences could be.
There is never any good reason that makes cheating acceptable but many will eventually try to defend their actions by claiming their "needs" were not being satisfied within the marriage. Many cheaters try to convince themselves that they can solve their marital problems by having an affair.
In many cases the cheater can't point to a specific reason for the affair or they claim their needs were being neglected. Sometimes seeking too much detail about the affair can cause you more harm than good so be cautious about how much information you demand. Whatever the situation, you can't change what has happened in the past.
The most helpful step now is to start communicating with each other about the needs you each have and determine how you can satisfy those needs within your marriage. You need to be open with each other regarding your needs so that you feel appreciated and not taken for granted. These needs may be simple, like help with the garden or a meal out every once in a while but they can help bring you closer. Knowing that you have the support of your spouse can go a long way to rebuilding your emotional bond.
After an affair, it is understandable that you will feel hurt and betrayed for some time and it may take longer to rebuild your romantic bond. As a victim of infidelity, your romantic feelings may be fragile for some time but if you both are sincere about rebuilding your emotional bonds, those feelings should also heal.
Surviving an affair is never pleasant but if you both are patient and open with each other, it can be done. Some couples even state that their marriage is happier and stronger after opening up to each other and reconciling after an affair. Plus there is help available if you need guidance or counseling in working through some of the problems you may have to deal with.

All matches in the World Cup were accorded One Day International status, with all matches being played over 50 overs. Fourteen national cricket teams competed in the tournament, including ten full members and four associate members. The World Cup took place between February and 2nd April 2011, with the first match played on 19 February 2011 with co-hosts India and Bangladesh facing off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The opening ceremony was held on 17 February 2011 at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka, two days before the start of the tournament, with the final on 2 April 2011 between India and Srilanka at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The tournament was won by India who defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets.
The World Cup was also supposed to be co-hosted by Pakistan, but in the wake of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team in Lahore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to strip Pakistan of its hosting rights. The headquarters of the organising committee were originally situated in Lahore, but have now been shifted to Mumbai. Pakistan was supposed to hold 14 matches, including one semi-final. Eight of Pakistan's matches (including the semi-final) were awarded to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh.
The biggest upset of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 has been the defeat of England by Ireland. Ireland's Kevin O'Brien made 100 in just 50 balls (and a total of 113 off 63 balls), the fastest World Cup Century. Also Ireland made the highest successful run chase in World Cup history beating Sri Lanka's 313 against Zimbabwe at New Plymouth in New Zealand in 1992.
